5 Easy Ways To Put God In Your Child’s Daily Life

No matter if you’re a stay at home mom or a working mother, sometimes putting God in your child’s daily life can be overwhelming. We want to raise our children to have God in their lives but sometimes struggle with just the basics of the day to day. Putting God in your child’s daily routine can be quite easy and doesn’t require you to do much more than what you’re doing now. It is imperative as parents we show our children God is with us all day, and throughout our day. Here are 5 Easy Ways to Put God In Your Child’s Daily Life.

Putting Prayer in Your Child’s Daily Routine

One of the easiest ways (to me) to put God in your child’s daily routine, would be prayer. I say it is easiest because it is an easy way for me to put God in my child’s daily life. So just how can you put prayer in your child’s life?

Prayer at Meal Time

Meals & Bedtimes are two of the top ways I put God in my child’s daily life through prayer. Before we eat our food, my toddler knows it’s time to say grace and thank God for our food. I usually say the prayer and when done of course I say Amen.

However, I wanted him to be active in my prayer and not just listen, so I taught him to say Amen at the end of the prayer. I do not allow him to take a bite until he says Amen. Sometimes, I’ll say, say Amen, because he is only 2 and doesn’t remember all the time which is fine. The importance is you are building a routine with your child that includes God.

You are teaching them to show thanks to God for our food, and obedience to mommy by saying Amen. (Two for ONE) This way he is active, and he knows before we eat we bless our food and we thank God for allowing us the provision for food. If you want to find easy prayers for your child to remember, My First Book of Mealtime Prayers is a great book to help them learn prayers.

As your children are getting older, you can take this a step further and have them say the prayer to bless the food or teach them a prayer that is easy for them to recite. Having prayer at mealtime is one of the top ways, I put God in my child’s daily routine.  You don’t have to change anything, just including them in the prayer is as easy as it can get.

Prayer at Bedtime:

This is another one that is easy enough.  After we do our nightly routine (which includes reading books) I’ll get more into that later, we say our prayers before bed.

It is important we thank God for our day, and we pray for whatever we need at this time.  Ending our day with God on the brain is a great way to end the night.  I wanted to incorporate this in my son’s life, so every night I let him know it is time to say our prayers and go to sleep.  This is another easy way for you to put God in your child’s daily routine, and just as with mealtime, I get him to say Amen when we are done.

Putting God In Your Child’s Reading Time

My son loves to read, and I love that about him.  He will want to read the same book repeatedly, and guess what? Momma reads it over and over again.

Another easy way to put God in your child’s daily routine is by substituting some of their books for Christian Books.  I have no problem reading Pete the Cat’s Train Trip or any other book for my son, but why not take advantage of reading time and allow this to be another chance to put God in your child’s routine.

We have a few books we read to put God in our son’s life but Baby’s First Prayers is our favorite one.  It has a collection of short, easy simple prayers throughout.  You can read the whole book or choose to read a few prayers a day.

When your child goes to grab one of their favorite books, by all means read it.  You can also pick out a book afterwards and say mommy wants to read this one too.  This is another easy way to put God in your child’s daily routine.  You’re teaching them about God while bonding, and doing something they love to do.

Movie Time

Okay so if your child or toddler is anything like mine, they may like their “screen time” just as much as we do. My baby often wants to watch his spider-man dvds or his favorite (Beethoven) over and over again. Which is fine, but we also like to incorporate other movies as well.

When the little ones want to have screen time why not make this an easy way to put God in their life. For example there are a bunch of Christian movies, which are child oriented and will catch your little ones attention. Just the other day my baby and I watched the old movie “The Prince of Egypt”! This is a movie talking about Moses and of course Jesus! Not only did my baby get to watch a movie like he wanted, but I used that opportunity as a way to put God in his life.

There are many dvds, tv shows, learning apps, and the like which can incorporate God and your little one. Electronics aren’t a bad thing, however I do believe in teaching our little ones we can glorify God even in our fun free time is essential.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 KJV

Talking About God Daily With Your Child

Talking about God throughout your day is another easy way to put God in your child’s daily life. You don’t have to have a full blown discussion with your little one. We all know sometimes they’re attention span isn’t the greatest, so just dropping a few things in here and there about God will do.

Simple things like, “Thank you Jesus for waking up (little ones name) today”. Also telling your child to have a blessed day today, this encourages them and lets them know you are relating to God about their day.

While we are on the phones with family/friends, we can incorporate God into our conversations. All of these really are just ways to plant a seed in your child’s life letting him/her know God is incorporated throughout your day, even in your conversations.

Taking Your Child To Church

I know some of you may feel like this is the most obvious way to put God in your child’s life, however for some moms it isn’t that way. I for one, can admit, taking my crying toddler to church wasn’t always something I wanted to do.

There would be times, where **GAGA** (his grandmother) would offer to keep him while I went to bible study, or prayer and I would be relieved. It’s hard to pay attention sometimes when your child is running around or causing a disruption.

However by keeping my baby from church just because I felt uncomfortable wasn’t doing either of us any good. For starters the bible tells us to train our children, so they won’t depart from the bible.

If I’m training my child to put God in his life, than going to church and having fellowship is part of that training. This is teaching him how to behave during church, as well as sowing seeds of righteousness into his life.

So take your baby to church with you and allow him/her to see God working through others and you to glorify Jesus!
